Setting up a website, adding a few affiliate links, and watching the money flow in from the links; sounds pretty easy, doesn’t it? There’s a lot of bloggers and businesses in general that are making a fair amount of money by doing exactly that. They set up a system through affiliate links that allow them to make money even while they sleep! Instead of dealing with the daily 9 - 5 grind, they’re making money constantly after spending just a few days setting up a system that they know works.

 

That’s the logic behind affiliate marketing and why it’s become so vastly popular in our day and age. It’s a popular tactic that businesses use to track sales and to get online revenue while not putting in as much work. If you haven’t encouraged using affiliate marketing for your business yet as a form of marketing then you’ve been missing out!

 

What Is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate marketing is when you or your company promote another person’s products in exchange for a small commission for each sale. Affiliate marketing works to generate revenue by promoting someone else’s products and earning recommendations from individual sales. If you’re interested in getting started it’s as simple as finding a company that you’re looking to work with and looking at the overview of the company’s program. You’ll sign up, wait to hear confirmation of your acceptance, and then you can get started. You’ll start to add the custom links provided from the program and earn a small commission for every purchase that’s made from that link.

 

A Closer Looking At Affiliate Marketing

Although that’s the overview of it, there are more details to affiliate marketing than just what we mentioned above. Affiliate marketing is taking the abilities of a few select individuals and having them work together to create an effective marketing strategy. All individuals receive their share of the product and the marketing strategy requires minimal work on all parts. For this marketing strategy to work effectively three main parties must be involved:

 

  • The product creator and seller
  • The affiliate
  • The consumer

 

These three parties share a close relationship to get the desired result and receive their share of the product. Let’s see how these three work closely together with affiliate marketing.

 

The Seller

The seller is where things begin and what leads to the rest of the process. The seller is a product creator, merchant, vendor, or large enterprise. The product can range from anything like a physical product that you use in your home to online courses. The seller doesn’t always work closely in the process but in some circumstances, they can.

 

The Affiliate

The affiliate is either a person or company that promotes the product or service to encourage people to purchase it. The affiliate must do their job of encouraging consumers to purchase the product by showing the value that it holds and the benefits of purchasing it. If the affiliate ends up purchasing the product through the link that the affiliate provides, the affiliate will earn a small commission.

 

The Consumer

You may not know it, but every time that you purchase a product or service because you saw someone else recommend it you’re the driving force of affiliate marketing. Affiliates will share products or services with them through social media, blogs, or other ways. Sometimes when they’re promoting a product they’ll be transparent and tell the consumers that it’s an affiliate link while other times the consumer will have no idea that they’re purchasing through an affiliate link. Once they purchase the product through the link both the seller and the affiliate make a commission.
