Its crazy to think how social media has changed the way we get and share information. With different apps such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest its easy to get lost in it. But there is one app out there that is changing the way we do business, LinkedIn! The more we look at it the more we start to see LinkedIn is a place where people can post content that can change the way we do business not just photos or the next OOTD post.

LinkedIn has over 600 Million Members! So now you must be wondering, what's in it for me? Why should I be using LinkedIn to Network?

Lets start with some statistics given by Josh Gallant of Foundation.

  • 61 million LinkedIn users are senior level influencers and 40 million are in decision-making positions.
  • LinkedIn is the #1 channel B2B marketers use to distribute content at 94%.
  • LinkedIn makes up more than 50% of all social traffic to B2B websites & blogs.
  • 80% of B2B leads come from LinkedIn vs. 13% on Twitter & 7% on Facebook.
  • LinkedIn generates 3x more conversions than Twitter & Facebook.

LinkedIn was founded as a business-related social network. Its purpose was not to post photos of yourself or your #TBT but for the sole purpose of allowing business professionals to learn and look for new ways to do business. Since being founded in 2002, LinkedIn has grown to over 500 Million users with 40million being decision makers and 61 million as senior -level influencers.

So how do you network on LinkedIn?

First things first, be sure to make your profile stands out. Are you fully optimizing your LinkedIn profile? Think of your profile as your virtual professional resume, fill everything out the way you want people to see you. Never leave your profile photo blank, not only will you be unrecognizable but it draws business professionals away from your profile with out one.

Connect with your connections

Making connections is easy but what next? Be sure to connect with those that best suit you and your goals, weather it is industry related or people you believe will help provide valuable insights. When you send a connection request you should also send a personalized message introducing yourself with the intent to network and connect. This is the first step toward creating a relationship with them.

Post engaging content

Are you posting regularly on LinkedIn? Be sure to post on a regular basis with content that allows your connections to engage. Having a voice on LinkedIn will make networking easier between you and your connections and it opens a line of communication with them. Most importantly engage back! Engage with those who engage with your content, show interest just as much as people are showing interest with you.

With LinkedIn being one of the fastest growing platform for business professionals the opportunities to network and connect are endless. The more you utilize the platform the more connections you will make to better your professional and personal goals.

Happy Networking!
